The journey will take you across numerous streams and over a rocky ridge, ultimately leading you to the Shira Plateau and Shira Camp, located at 3840 meters. Day 3  :  Shira Camp to The Lava Tower and Barranco Camp

After an early morning breakfast, you'll leave the moorland environment and venture into the semi-desert and rocky landscape. About five hours of walking will bring you face to face with the impressive Lava Tower at an altitude of 4630 meters. Packed lunches will be provided, and you'll have the option to trek the massive Lava Tower, weather permitting. As you gain altitude, it's normal to experience some effects of the elevation, such as headaches and shortness of breath. After lunch, you'll descend from Lava Tower and head to the Barranco Camp at 3950 meters. The descent of approximately 680 meters is beneficial for acclimatization. Barranco Camp is nestled in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall, offering a picturesque setting. Here, you'll have dinner and be treated to the beautiful sight of the setting sun.

Once you conquer the Wall, you'll be rewarded with views of Heim Glacier and the world below, above the clouds. The trail then winds up and down through the Karanga Valley, providing an ideal trekking day for further acclimatization.

Day 5  :  Karanga Camp Heading to Barafu Camp

After breakfast at Karanga Camp, you'll continue your journey, intersecting with the Mweka Route, the trail used for the final descent. After hiking for about an hour, you'll reach Barafu Hut, the last water stop for the porters at an altitude of 4600 meters. The name "Barafu" translates to "ice" in Swahili, reflecting the camp's location on a rocky and exposed ridge. Tents will be set up in anticipation of strong winds and rocky terrain, so it's important to familiarize yourself with the campsite before nightfall. An early dinner will be served to ensure sufficient rest before the summit attempt later that night. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing to prepare you for the challenging summit night.

At around 23:30, your guide will wake you up with tea and biscuits, signaling the start of your summit attempt. The route takes you northwest, ascending over stone scree. This part of the trek is mentally and physically demanding for many trekkers. After approximately six hours, you'll reach Stella Point, situated at 5685 meters on the crater rim. The sight of the sunrise from here is breathtaking. Continuing for about two hours on a snow-covered trail, you'll reach the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak, at 5895 meters. Reaching the summit is a remarkable achievement, and you'll have a short time to savor the moment, take photographs, and enjoy some tea before starting the descent back to Barafu Camp. The trek down takes approximately three hours, and upon arrival, you'll rest and have a hot lunch in the sun. After lunch, you'll continue descending to Mweka Hut at 3100 meters. The Mweka Trail leads you through scree and rocks, transitioning from moorland to rainforest. Exp

On the final day of the trek, following a well-deserved breakfast, your trekking team will celebrate with dancing and singing. This is also the time to present tips to your guides, assistant guides, chef(s), and porters for their hard work and support throughout the journey. After the celebration, you'll descend for about three hours back to Mweka Gate at an altitude of 1980 meters. The National Park requires all trekkers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Trekkers who reached Stella Point will receive green certificates, while those who made it to Uhuru Peak will receive gold certificates, commemorating their achievements. After receiving the certificates, you'll proceed to the Mweka village, a one-hour trek covering approximately 3 kilometers. A hot lunch will be served before you begin the drive back to Moshi.
